Course content by topics:
- Text linguistics: history, function, uses and purposes of texts; 2. Text types: their production and receivers’ interpretation; 3. Constitutional principles of the text; 4. Application of analysis on particular texts; 5. A historical overview, concepts and topics within discourse analysis; 6. Critical discourse analysis; 7. Historical approach to discourse; 8. Application of analysis on concrete corpora
Learning outcomes at course level:
- To name and explain the fundamental theoretical perspectives and approaches in text linguistics and discourse analysis
- To analyse and interpret verbal texts relying on the acquired theoretical frameworks
- To assess the adequacy of particular methods with regard to various text types and discourse types
- To compare methods of analysis and interpretation with regard to various text types and discourses
- To reach conclusions on the adequacy of particular analytical instruments for the analysis of the selected data and to apply them in analysis
- To critically evaluate research papers from the fields of discourse analysis and text linguistics
- To integrate and combine approaches developed within discourse analysis with other similar approaches in the broader context of linguistics
