Research interests

His main areas of scientific interest are sociolinguistics, contact linguistics with a focus on Croatian-German/Austrian linguistic and cultural contacts, language biographical studies, ecolinguistics, dialect geography, interlinguistics, Esperantology and history of philology.

Chair of German Language at the Department of German Language and Literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb.

Member of the Board of Directors of the German Society for Interlinguistics (Gesellschaft für Interlinguistik.

Editorial work

He is a member of the editorial board of the linguistic journal Suvremena lingvistika.

Research accolades and prizes

He is the winner of the State Prize for Popularization of Science in 2015 for two acoustic atlases of Croatian local dialects and an interactive linguistic exhibition on Austrian and German loanwords in Croatian.

Selected bibliography

His bibliography includes four linguistic monographs and around two hundred other papers, reviews, and translations.
